about

Hypnotic and undulant, the infectious sound of Detroit quintet Mexican Knives worms its way into the senses like a sickness--one you'll want to catch. The band's eagerly anticipated LP, simply titled Mexican Knives, is an eleven-track spellbook of downer-surf-psych-pop curses and invocations, an aural whirling dervish of bubblegum tambourine beats, percussive bass bursts and propulsive yet elliptical guitar arrangements. Inflections of mid-sixties psychedelica and goth-country flavor call to mind a very, very early My Bloody Valentine. Ruth Synowiec's haunting vocals, shifting in tone from ethereal to commanding to foreboding, render each song a cautionary daydream. For the soundtrack to the surrealist western of your mind, look no further.

For fans of: The Breeders, Dum Dum Girls, My Bloody Valentine, Mazzy Star, Pretenders & Tsunami.
